Hughes Hollow this morning had a wintering eastern phoebe and a common raven overhead. Otherwise normal winter residents, but the yellow-rumped warblers seemed quite abundant for mid-December.
Yesterday I encountered a merlin staking out territory on the C&O Canal just upstream from Marsden Tract (mile 11.5).
