Apologies for the late report for Saturday's (Dec 15) Triadelphia CBC. We found approximately 25 RED CROSSBILLS feeding in Virginia pine at Rocky Gorge reservoir near the dam in West Laurel, PG County. They were identified as Type 3 by a colleague and eBird reviewers using sonograms generated from recordings we obtained. The birds were very active for about 10 minutes before flying across the reservoir to the Howard County side. The trees had lots of cones so maybe they'll stick around the area for a while (please note however the PG County access to the reservoir via Supplee Lane is closed for the season -- we had special permission from WSSC to bird the area).
