Maryland Birders -

I visited Pickering Creek from 10:00 to 1:30 today, with results
shown below. My favorites on the list were the Wood Ducks, the Purple
Finch, and the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.

Comments: I birded several of the trails of Pickering Creek, but did not
visit Observation Platforms 1 and 2.

Snow Goose 80 A single flock flew over, chattering away.

Tundra Swan 2
Wood Duck 5 Five flushed from the stream that feeds the small pond near
the farm buildings. all were seen at close range. Some were giving their
squeaky flight call as they took off. This is a place where there is a nest
box that is frequently used. This location is often the first place that
the Wood Ducks show up each spring in this region. Pickering has had good
success with their Wood Duck nesting program in recent years.
