Subject: [MDBirding] No white pelican in St. Mary's, 12/25

Jane Kostenko and I went out to St. George's Island and the Piney Point Lighthouse and failed to relocate the reported American White Pelican. We were disappointed to find that the little foot bridge at the end of Piney Point Road had a rope across it saying Private Property. We could see the poles of the fish weir from the end of the road while staying on the road and there were only a few Brown Pelicans there.

We drove over to the lighthouse at Piney Point where there were a few more Brown Pelicans and some annoying Northern Gannets flying upriver. I usually love NOGAs but not when you're looking for a big white bird with black wing tips.

John Hubbell found 2 Greater White-fronted Geese in Clements at the intersection of Rt. 234 and Bayside Road. Not many recent reports in St. Mary's and John said it was a county bird for him. Nice!
