Traveling to Kim's sister's house this morning, I spotted 4 crossbills sitting at the top of a spruce at Josef's Inn Restaurant in Fallston (Pleasantville Rd, just south of 152). We pulled over immediately, but the birds were no where to be found. Standing there for a few seconds, we had a Sharp-shinned fly into the trees behind the restaurant and out came 7 White-winged Crossbills. They gained elevation and headed south, calling the entire time.
I sent Bob and Susan Hood a message since this is very close to their house and I heard from them later that they found at least a dozen White-winged Crossbills in the neighborhoods to the south of Josef's, off Pleasantville Rd. . Kim and I looked on our way, but didn't see any. I'm sure there are more around. This area is loaded with spruce and hemlock.
Good birding!
