Subject: [MDBirding] a new prey item for Eastern Screech Owl?

A story from a neighbor:

One of her sons received a small radio-controlled toy helicopter for Christmas. He started out flying it around inside the house, but that activity was not appreciated. So in the later afternoon he took it outside to the lawn below their house. The red morph Eastern Screech Owl that seems to have taken up residence in the nest box I put out last winter evidently felt that the helicopter would be a tasty meal---the owl flew out of the woods, grabbed the copter out of the air, and headed for a perch in an adjacent tree. Or perhaps the owl was simply defending its territory against all dusk-flying objects. At any rate, it soon dropped the inedible victim. No lasting harm to the toy, and the owl was back in its box when I checked the next evening.
