Kim and I met Zach Baer and John Hubbell at the refuge yesterday morning
and saw the same crossbills. We saw the flock twice in flight and
estimated there to be about 25 birds present. Amazingly, when they landed,
we could only find 2! There was a helicopter going over at the time, but I
still tried to get a recording of the birds anyway. Mikey Lutmerding was
able to produce a spectrogram and confirm that these were Type 3 Red
Crossbills.

We made a couple stops by the visitor center, but did not see the
previously reported Black-capped Chickadee or Oregon Junco (which is a
review species and I encourage anyone who sees it to take good notes and
photos).

Good birding!
