Subject: [MDBirding] Wilson Ornithological Society--125th Annual Meeting--nearby in March

Hi Everyone,

I met Dan Cristol, an ornithologist at the College of William and Mary,
during the Cape Charles Christmas Bird Count. He mentioned the upcoming
WOS meeting, and we agreed that the MD and DC birding community would be
interested to hear about this nearby opportunity to learn more about birds.
I've pasted a summary from Dan below. Hope to see some of you there!

The 125th annual meeting of the Wilson Ornithological Society is coming up
this Spring (Fri-Sun, March 8-10 at William & Mary), and the deadline for
submitting abstracts for talks or papers is approaching fast (January 7th).

Of the professional ornithology meetings, this one is probably the friendliest
and most welcoming for students and non-academics, as well as academic
researchers. There will be great field trips (red-cockaded
woodpecker colony, Chincoteague, Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel),
high-profile plenary talks, and three simultaneous scientific sessions of
cutting-edge ornithology on every imaginable topic, including history of
ornithology and birds-and-human-disease. Please consider submitting a talk
or poster abstract and encouraging your students to attend and present
their work if they have completed projects. The cost is very reasonable,
and we are lucky to have this right nearby in Virginia. Please visit the
website for all of the information you'll need, or contact Dan Cristol (
<dacris...>) if you have any questions.
