Hi Gail and others,

Both crossbills species were gotten on the Bowie CBC on Tuesday, 1/1/13 over on
the North Tract of Patuxent.Based on the closures of this area the next few days,
it looks like Sunday would be the day to try for them.

Hi all,

After a flurry of eBird and MDbirding reports over the weekend and a few on Monday, there were no reported sightings of either crossbill at Pax yesterday (the refuge was closed on New Year's Day). Did anyone try and dip out? Or perhaps just no reports. We'd like to give it a go today or tomorrow so updates would be appreciated.

We were delighted to see WWCR in DC as a new year and new DC bird on January 1, having missed them in 2009 -- great stuff!

We are going out of town to the Philippines in a week for 3 weeks -- so a general Maryland rarity alert!! Undoubtedly hosts of Pine Grosbeaks, Hoary Redpolls and other northern goodles will descend on our fair state while we are away!
