For the Fort Smallwood redpoll, follow the loop around until you get to the first "main" parking lot by the battery (fortress-type building). Park there, then walk left along the water. You should see a large pine tree next to the parking lot amidst the sweet gums -- walk to the NEXT, smaller, more gnarled pine tree farther along the shore, and the redpoll was in a sweet gum next to that pine with a single goldfinch. Of course, the bird could be anywhere around the parking lot/battery/maintenance shop, but that's the specific location where I saw it yesterday at 4:05pm.
