Subject: [MDBirding] Talbot Barrow's No, Cambridge Brown Pelican, Blackwater White-breasted Nuthatch

I was at the Bill Burton Fishing Pier north side at Talbot at 7:15 this
morning. Another gentleman, Ken, was also present. We did not find the hen
Barrow's Goldeneye. Present were Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, and Surf
Scoter.

As I drove to the Cambridge side, I notice what I thought was a Brown
Pelican in flight settling at the Visitor Center. I pulled right and Š.
There perched on the rocks at the left side of the entrance to the bigger
pool, was an immature Brown Pelican. It stayed maybe 10 minutes, when a fly
over of Canada Geese got it moving in a westerly direction. I cruised the
Cambridge waterfront, but could no relocate it. But I have pictures.

Oakley St. held a nice variety of waterfowl, largely Canvasback and Lesser
Scaup, but there were also American Wigeon, Mallards, and a single drake
Redhead. Ruddy Ducks were further out, and Surf Scoters and Long-tailed
Ducks even further out.

I ran the loop at Blackwater twice, no White Pelicans. A big flock of
Common Mergansers, with a single drake Red-breasted were visible from the
observation platform. I ran into Jared Fisher on my second loop, and he put
up with me the rest of the day. Cedar Creek Rd. was pretty dead. We tried
another loop at Blackwater, and Jared spied a White-breasted Nuthatch,
rather unusual for Dorchester, I understand. This as on the little woodland
trail, just a short distance from the temporary visitor center. Two Hairy
Woodpeckers, two Hermit Thrushes, a Winter Wren, with Brown-headed
nuthatches beeping behind us, was nice.

We got back to the fishing pier a little after 4:00 and found Ken again.
But no Barrow's. The water was smooth this time, but no joy. Common
Goldeneyes, Surf Scoters and a few Bufflehead were present.
