Subject: [MDBirding] Wood Duck at Druid Hill

Hi All,

I birded Druid Hill today and was there yesterday at the zoo. The birds were mostly the same both days. The reservoir has large numbers of gulls, with nearly 20 GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS and over 100 RING-BILLS today. Also on the reservoir were several AMERICAN COOTS, HOODED MERGANSERS and RUDDY DUCKS.

In Taylor's Grove (the stand of pine trees opposite the reservoir) there were all the expected songbirds. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was present and a BALD EAGLE flew over as I walked through.

The smaller fenced-in pond that is on zoo grounds but which can be viewed from Mansion House Dr. had a few more Hoodies and a drake WOOD DUCK. Ebird marked that as rare bird. I did not realize that, and I have seen Wood Ducks there year-round in the past.

Good Birding!
