Subject: [MDBirding] Rarities this weekend

Went rarity-chasing this weekend with some friends. Results:

Red Crossbills at Soldier's Delight: Yes
White-winged Crossbills at Soldier's Delight: Yes
Common Redpolls at Fort Howard: No
Common Redpoll at Fort Smallwood: Yes (redeemed from the last spot)
White-winged Crossbills at FS: Yes
Red-headed Woodpecker at FS: Yes
Tufted Duck at Kent Narrows: No
Barrow's Goldeneye at Choptank: No (and we scanned from both the Talbot/Dorchester sides)

Of note: The Dorchester side of the Bill Burton Fishing Pier offered me the best looks I've ever had, and may ever have, of Long-tailed Ducks. There were ~25 in the water, and about 10 were just below the pier and did not mind our presence. Common Goldeneyes were everywhere, and Surf Scoters were also visible. If anyone needs any of these 3 species for whatever reason (lifer, county, year) this was a great spot for all 3. Heidi got some great photos.
