Subject: [MDBirding] Redpolls at Ft. Howard today - YES!

Hi everyone,

Had a very birdy morning at Ft. Howard today. Driving in the entrance road I came upon another birder stopped along the shoulder. Another birder (Tim?) Houghton joined us and three of us watched a large mixed flock feeding in the middle of the road and along the shoulders. The flock kept changing its makeup, but at one time or another for about 15-20 minutes we hadRedpolls - at least 2 perhaps 4, Juncos, Tree Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Goldfinches, Red-winged Blackbirds and Starlings. The looks at the Redpolls were quite good. The birds were spooked frequently and we could never figure out what was causing it, but they kept returning right away which was nice.

Other common birds seen were..Crows, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Winter Wren, Carolina Wren, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Grackles, and a nice Sharpie which really caused the flock to disperse to other areas!

Good birding!
