Greetings,
You may remember that on Wednesday evening I reported having seen a Common Redpoll in one of the spruce trees at the Bittersweet Golf Course south of Elkton. After reviewing my photos, however of poor quality that they are, and seeking the advice of some of our bird-brained brothers and sisters, I must rescind this report.
The bird I incorrectly listed in the field as a redpoll was obviously not one. I had my first doubts regarding the bird's taxa after I got my photos uploaded and started to examine them.
What was not immediately obvious to me, however, was that this bird -which had me so excited while out on the golf course in the cold rain, was thst this bird turned out to be a simple House Finch.
Though the bird's plumage seemed to resemble that of a its distant boreal cousin -at least it did to me, other field marks pointed squarely away from anything other than House Finch: though we never considered Cassin's Finch. hahahaha...
If anyone would like to discuss the process of overcoming a deflated ego, I'm free tomorrow afternoon. -lol
Also, if anyone is interested in veiwing a hazy, distant, and poorly lit photo of a House Finch, let me know and I'll forward it/them to you.
Thanks to Matt Haffner for being the first to help me out with this... Also, thanks to Bill and all the rest for confirming Matt's ID: I don't really hate you. <3. ;-)
