Hi Everybody:
I spent most of Friday primarily looking for waterfowl in western MD. I went as far as Lake Habib (Rocky Gap St. Pk.) and was there at first daylight. Other than mallards and Canada Geese I only saw 5 HOOODED MERGANSERS. I then headed back east and spent the rest of the day in Washington County. Little Pool was frozen over although I di have 2 BLACK DUCKS on one of the edges.
At Fort Frederick St. Pk. i walked the canal and counted what I could see on the lake. My best bird here was a male COMMON GOLDENEYE.There were also 375 Canada Geese, 21 BLACK DUCKS and 27 COMMON MERGANSERS. The WHITE PHASE Great Blue Heron continues in its ususal location and I also saw two WILD TURKEYS. There was nothing whatsoever on Blairs Valley Lake which is when it started raining for the day.
I drove across Broadfording Rd. in an easterly direction from Clear Springs looking primarily for field birds and was shut out.
I looked for the L. Shrike north of Hagerstown on Hagers Crossing Dr. No luck with the shrike but I did have 9 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS in the overgrown field. Lastly, I also had no luck with field birds slowly driving on White Hall and Chewsville Roads.
