Is there an off-list discussion going on about these birds? I don't know redpolls, but my impression from trawling ebird is that Hoary tend to show up as occasional birds in Common flocks. I am surprised there hasn't been any reply to this post. I'd love to hear the thoughts of someone more knowledgeable than I... are people being quiet and accepting, or quiet and skeptical?
