Subject: [MDBirding] Lesser Black-backed Gull, Cambridge

The LBBG was seen at the end of the concrete pier to the right of the lighthouse at Long Wharf Park in Cambridge. I walked halfway out the pier to be sure of the ID, though the charcoal back was clearly visible from the parking lot. The bird was standing (yellow legs obvious in the sunshine) next to several Great Black-backeds which eliminated second-guessing myself.

Since I'm posting, I'll mention a stellar duck day at Pickering Creek yesterday. A surprise to me was the multitude of Hooded Mergansers, and I was happy to get FOY Green-winged Teals and a single pair of Gadwalls. The rest of my list included Shoveler, Wigeon, Black, Mallard, Bufflehead, Lesser Scaup, Ruddy, Bufflehead, Pied-billed Grebe. There may have been more (no scope).

Cackling Goose yesterday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church (S. Washington St., Easton, near the intersection with 322). Female Barrow's Goldeneye continues today to the left of the Choptank Bridge, minus her usual band of Bufflehead.
