Subject: [MDBirding] Carroll County Short-eared Owls

Happy to report the Bullfrog Road Short -eared Owls are still performing their sunset flights.
I arrived about 4 pm to find a Red-tail standing in the field like a lawn ornament, two Kestrels hunting from the highest tree on the horizon, and a Red-shoulder in the woods. The Owl show began at 4:50 when both Short- ears suddenly appeared over the horizon and began coursing the field. One was very light and the other quite russet, beautiful in the late sun of a bright winter day with their flat owl faces and black eyes unmistakable. After 15 minutes they disappeared over the ridge and the sun slid behind the mountains. Short and cold (29 degrees) but well worth the trip.
