A second-cycle Iceland Gull was at the reservoir near Howard University in DC today between 2:45 and 3:15 PM. At that time a Bald Eagle flew by, all the gulls scattered, and only the Ring-billeds seemed to return. While scanning the swirling mass overhead, I also spotted an adult gull with very reduced black in its primaries, but I couldn't see it well enough to ID it.
Also present were the first-year male Common Goldeneye, a Ruddy Duck and a Pied-billed Grebe (plus lots of Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Amercian Coots). I did not see a Cackling Goose.
Regarding viewing at the reservoir, it's fine to view from 4th/5th Street NW (west side), but not along the the short road (McMillan Dr.) leading to the security gate at the SW corner.
