Subject: [MDBirding] Barrow's Goldeneye still at The Elms

The drake Barrow's Goldeneye that has been reported from time to time
(but not recently that I can remember) was present in Chesapeake Bay
South of Lexington Park, St. Mary's County, yesterday, Saturday
afternoon, January 19.

It was seen by a group of birders from the Northern Virginia Bird
Club led by Larry Meade and me at The Elms Environmental Education
Center at the end of St. James Church Rd. The bird was swimming and
diving with other (Common) Goldeneyes a half mile North of the
education center. All field marks on the Barrow's were seen well in
bright sunshine. The birds were close to a set of pound nets where
they have been observed before.
