Subject: [MDBirding] Re: Tufted Duck at KI Narrows

Hey all.
I was at Kent Narrows from 2:40-3:45 yesterday. I had heard that the Tufted Duck had been seen hanging out under the bridge, but decided to check Red Eyes first. All ducks were terribly backlit. So I then drove down and parked under the US 50 bridge. I scoped out the scaup by Harris' Crab House and came up with 2 male Common Goldeneye, but nothing more. I walked the little boardwalk to the southside of the bridge and scoped out another group of scaup on the west side of the narrows under the bridge. There was a pair of Long-tailed Duck and about 20 Lesser Scaup. Determined, I scoped out the flock by Harris' again and thought I saw the Tufted Duck a couple of times, but couldn't confirm ID. I kept seeing them near a pepsi machine at Harris', so I walked over to scope them out from there. I immediately found the TUDU there and watched her for at least 20 minutes before I was satisfied with the view I had gotten. There was a random family near Harris' Crab House standing right where I decided to scope out the TUDU and I told them about a rare european duck. They all got pretty excited and got really good looks at the duck through my scope. I hope this helps anyone looking for her today.
