Subject: [MDBirding] Say's Phoebe & Long-eared Owls

After a three day weekend trip on the eastern shore, I decided to get up way too early (5am) yet again to chase the Say's Phoebe. I arrived at Keysville and Sixes Bridge right before sunrise and just after Winger West. Soon others arrived and we staked out the barn where it had been seen the day before. After a short time, the phoebe came out of the barn and was flycatching (it was 27 degrees F). It flew up the hill to the north (towards Sixes Bridge). Keith Costly, Mark Schilling, and I followed and had some great views of the bird in a tree near the road (its call is quite beautiful as well). The homeowner actually waved me up onto his property to get pictures! The bird stayed for a few minutes and then continued north. Keith & I followed it & staked it out until others arrived.
Then Keith and I drove down to Soldiers Delight to see the Long-eared Owls. Turns out there are at least 4 LEOW in that juniper. It's thrilling to see so many in one place.
2 life birds in one day is nothing to complain about :-)
BTW, I don't have time to post pictures now, but will sometime tonight.

Cheers,
