Subject: Re: [MDBirding] Inauguration Bird List

I didn't have nearly as nice a list as Chris Tonra, but I kept a checklist
for all the birds I saw from near the Reflecting Pool at the Capitol during
the 2.5 hours I was packed like a sardine at the inauguration. I recorded 9
species, the highlights of which were an immature COOPER'S HAWK and an
adult PEREGRINE FALCON.

I have to admit I saw two very small geese at Constitution Gardens about
two weeks ago and I felt that they were both Canadas based on the profile
of the bill and the fact that the neck was not noticeably thick in
proportion to the length. I'm not saying Chris didn't see Cackling Goose,
I'm just letting people know there are two very small Geese in this
vicinity that I believe are Lesser Canada Goose and so caution must be used
to ID small geese as Cackling Goose.
