Subject: [MDBirding] Calvert Co Redpoll 21 Jan

It took me five attempts, but I finally managed to catch up with at least one Common Redpoll among 55+ American Goldfinches on Broome's Island around 9 this morning. There were also 3 Pine Siskin present. The finches were feeding in the sweet gums along the E side of Broome's Island Rd just S of the S intersection with Church St. They were also dropping into the fields just E of the road, where they, along with many sparrows and juncos, seemed to disappear among the furrows and short, fresh green plants.

Other highlights included a Pine Warbler and 4 Brown-headed Nuthatch.

During my earlier visits, my conservative counts of goldfinches ranged from 17 to 43. The skies were much brighter this morning as well.
