Hi All,
The Kent County Bird Club will be making our annual winter trek to Ocean City on Saturday, 26 January. We will be searching for local specialties including sea ducks and other wintering waterfowl, loons, and gulls, and shorebirds, featuring Purple Sandpipers, oystercatchers and turnstones. We will start the day at Ocean City inlet for sea ducks (including possible Harlequins and eiders), loons, gulls, rockpipers, and (we fervently hope) alcids. From there we will check the coastal bays, and fresh water ponds on the mainland, with a potential extension to Assateague Island.
We will meet local folks traveling with us to the shore at 8:00 AM at the Dollar General Store parking lot between Spring St. and Philosopher's Terrace. Others wishing to meet us en route may look for us at the commuter parking lot at the intersection of US. 50 and MD-404 near Wye Mills at 8:45 AM. Please give us a call so we can make arrangements with with you if you wish to meet us down there or at Ocean City. We expect to arrive at the Inlet around 10:30 AM. You should bring a lunch with a hot thermos, and we suggest wearing layers of warm clothing as the forecast is calling for conditions similar to today (temperatures in the 30s and strong winds).
Good birding,
