Subject: [MDBirding] C&O Canal Winter Bird Count-Miles 70. 71, 72

A convivial group of birders including Kevin Graff, Joette Borzik, Phil Welser, & Eric Dubbin joined Nancy and me on the C&O Winter bird count, yesterday. Fortunately, the wind that was forecast did not happen, although we did have some light snowfall during the walk. The sun did not make it through the clouds until the end of the walk. Nevertheless, it was quite pleasant in comparison to previous canal counts.

The most unexpected bird was a Greater Scaup seen during mile 72 upstream from the railroad trestle.

Out totals for the 37 species recorded for the three miles are as follows:

Great Blue Heron 1
Black Vulture 1
Turkey Vulture 2
Canada Goose 94
Mallard 15
