We have a reliable, but unconfirmed, report of a possible snowy owl in Cecil County. The bird was spotted Saturday at approx 2 pm near the intersection of Routes 273 and 545. Members of the Cecil County bird club scouted the area today, but we could not find the bird. It is a very rural area (even by Cecil County standards) - mostly horse farms and small family farms...meaning field after field after field - going straight up to the Pennsylvania line. That area also borders Delaware. The spotter is reliable...she's a member of our club and knows her birds. The bird could be anywhere, or up into Pennsylvania. We will continue to scout the area. I am posting this to the listserv simply to alert nearby counties...states...to keep any eye open. At this point, I wouldn't encourage anyone to travel any distance. The area is large; the bird small. I will post this to the Delaware listserv. If anyone has access to Pennsylvania listservs, I'd appreciate it they would send it along. best maryanne dolan Cecil Bird Club Elkton, Md.
