I walked the towpath from Violette's Lock to a quarter mile beyond mile marker 23 and back 11:15- 12:15. There were snow flurries the entire time. Beautiful! My preferred weather.
On the river: 10 Lesser Scaup 2 Pied-billed Grebe 8 No. Shoveler 5 Bufflehead 1 Great Blue Heron
Hughes Hollow 1:00- 2:30 Flurries and a few snow squalls. : ). When I first arrived a Great Blue flew in from the northwest. Gorgeous gliding through the snow. While I was walking:
Carolina Wren Winter Wren Titmouse Swamp Sparrow Brown Creeper Carolina Chickadee No. Cardinal Yellow-rumped Warbler ( walking on the ice) Yellow-bellied Sapsucker ( heard ) Downy Woodpecker ( one very frozen Mallard decoy that fooled me for a moment!)
Hughes Road ( Polo field) Eastern Bluebird (6 males only)
