Subject: [MDBirding] Lapwing in Cordova, Longspurs, Richardson's Geese

Hey all,
I woke up later than I would've liked this morning, and immediately hit the road for Cordova, MD. I arrived at the intersection of Old Cordova Rd & Blades Rd. at about 9:50am and immediately saw Jim Stasz looking at the bird from his car. It was in the field immideately north of the 3 Bridge Branch, Old Cordova intersection on the hill ridge as viewed from Old Cordova and remained pretty distant the whole time. At 10:07am it called once or twice (sounded like a cross between a gull and a cat) and took flight. It circled as it gained elevation and flew due north towards the white shed building with the steeply sloped roof. Sadly I lost it in the trees. I remained at the location until 12:30pm in hopes that the bird would return. I called Mike Walsh at 3:40pm to see if the bird had come back, but it hadn't. Good luck to anyone looking tomorrow.
After I left the lapwing location, I headed to Lewistown X Covey Landing to look for Lapland Longspurs, on a suggestion from Jim Stasz. I had a flock of at least 100-150 Horned Lark and 2 Lapland Longspur (life birds) (I'm sure there were more). While I was scoping them out hoping for Snow Bunting or more longspurs, they all took flight after a pickup truck drove past, flying to the southeast.
I went to Stevenson X Sparks Rds in Caroline County next after hearing that Jim Brighton had a few Snow Buntings. I was joined by Kathy Calvert and Marcia Balestri. While we were talking, they spotted a pair of buntings on the wing, but I wasn't able to get on them... bummer (lots of larks though)
I finished the day at Lake Tuckahoe with thousands of Canada Geese and a family group of 6 Richardson's Cacklers.

BTW, I'm sorry this wasn't posted sooner. I do not have a smart phone and have not had the chance to get on the internet until very recently.

Good birding!
