MDBirding,
After the heavy sensitive species post, I wanted to post a follow-up on a completely different and very cheery note.
I encourage everyone to check out this brand new eBird feature:
http://ebird.org/ebird/livesubs.
Maryland is truly one of the leading states in the eBird family and enjoys wide usage statewide (although there is always some new birder to introduce to eBird or some old-timer who still hasn't been taught the new technology).
I'd like to personally thank everyone who has helped to make eBird the success that it has been, from each person who has ever submitted a checklist to those of you who have mentioned eBird to a friend or shared a checklist with them.
I'd especially like to publicly thank Tyler, Bill, Ron, Rob, Jim, Matt and the rest of the Maryland eBird review team, as well as Mike Bowen and Mike Ostrowski who help with Maryland hotspots. Behind-the-scenes management at eBird is a volunteer position with a salary of exactly zero dollars and zero cents. It is sometimes contentious and often thankless. But eBird would not function without it and certainly would not maintain the growing scientific credibility that is currently receives. Thanks to all of you, from the bottom of the heart of "eBird corporate".
Those of us at eBird love to sit and watch submissions roll in on that live submissions map, and to imagine what it might be like 5 years from now and how that might inform our knowledge of bird migration and our understanding of bird conservation in new and important ways.
I hope you all enjoy it too, since you all share in the credit every time a new yellow explosion appears on the map!
Good (e)Birding,
