Subject: [MDBirding] Big Pool White Heron-Nope

I took a jaunt to Fort Frederick this morning to see if the white heron is still flaunting his rugged individualism around Big Pool...didn't find him this time. The Beaver Pond is completely frozen over, as is Big Pool, with the exception of a couple very small areas of open water out toward the west end, currently occupied by a couple hundred Canada Geese, a few Black Ducks and Mallards, 30 or so Common Merganser, and 5 Pintail sliding around on the ice nearby. I checked along the river, back by the campground...no luck there either, although he could be anywhere farther along the river in either direction. It'll be interesting to see if he's still around when things thaw out this spring. The last eBird report of a sighting was 1/12/13.

I'm glad the Long-eared Owl Caper has been solved. BGE may have wielded the saw that cut the branch, but I still think one of those dastardly photographer ne'r-do-wells is somehow involved.

Well at least nobody jumped to conclusions.
