Subject: [MDBirding] Red Crossbills at Middle Patuxent Environmental Area, Howard County

Hi All,

My wife and I just finished a hike at Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in Howard County. At the crossroads near the Trotter Road entrance right near stop 1 on the red trail, I heard Red Crossbills fly very close to use. I saw two green/yellow types land in a tree about 10 feet away from us. Then they flew to a puddle to drink maybe three feet away from my wife's feet and one almost tried to land on her head. They then flew off toward the pine trees nearby.

It was a pretty unbelievable encounter
