Nice shot George! This reminds me of a close encounter I had the other week with a fox. I was birding Glenwood Cemetery in DC and spishing to get sparrows out of some tangles. The tangles were bisected by a small animal trail snaking around a large mound of dirt and back into the woods. As I spished I saw movement back the woods and suddenly a fox came running up the path and froze 8 feet in front of me on the trail. For a moment we stared at eachother until I broke the silence saying "I bet I'm not what you were expecting"! With that he turned tail and ran back into the woods.
It's amazing what comes to you when you spish (apart from your targets). Over my birding "career" I've had Hawks, feral dogs, cats, Barred Owls, and Long-tailed Weasels come in only to be shocked by my presence!
Good Birding!
