Subject: [MDBirding] Black-headed Gull reports

Hi All - I noticed that Joanne had the BH Gull yesterday at the Hunt Valley Mall. In looking back at last winter's reports, the last recorded date the gull was seen was my eBird report on February 13, 2011. So, Joanne's report is one day later than last winter's late date. It will be interesting to see if the bird hangs around much longer before it departs for wherever it intends to spend the breeding season. I encourage everyone who sees the bird to continue to post and enter the sighting into eBird.

I will be checking the lot often for as long as the gull stays around this winter.

After, we stopped at Hunt Valley mall. Lots of ring billed gulls, but no black-headed in the mall. Gave up, went to Wendy's where we had to go sit in the parking lot and wait for them to bring our lunch to us. Two gulls flew over, one landed on the light pole in front of us. We were chatting and getting frustrated at the wait. The lone gull kept preening, wagging its tail, and cocking it's head, as if it was looking at us.

So we looked back. It WAS the black-headed gull! I think it likes to be noticed!

Subject: [MDBirding] Soldiers Delight: No LEOW, No Crossbills

I spent nearly 2 1/2 hours today from 9:00 to 11:30 peering into the now
infamous grove at SD but never located anything. I was also hoping the mixed
pack of crossbills would graze by but no luck.
