I think Virginia Rail has been seen (or heard) at KAG -- over the years King and Sora have been occasional visitors there so Virginia not unexpected. I should add that the thick reedbed just in front of the farthest platform is not Phragmites, but narrow-leave cattail (Typha angustifolia I believe) which itself is considered an invasive from Europe (but other authorities say is a native of eastern USA tidal marshes). There is some Phrag off the side platform, but KAG has been trying to get rid of it and a large area was "de-fragged" a few years ago. But a never-ending job...

Subject: [MDBirding] DC Kenilworth AG Rail?
Yesterday afternoon as I was approaching the far platform at Kenilworth AG, I heard something very rail-like calling sporadically from the phrag just south of the platform.
The call was similar to, but not quite, the female Clapper Rail's "purr" call, and was similar to a Virginia Rail's "kicker call".
The former can be heard here:

The latter can be head at the start of this recording

It seems that either one of these species is unlikely at this location, so I will gladly take suggestions as to what else it could be.
I went back this morning and waited in the same spot for some time, but did not hear the bird again.
