Subject: [MDBirding] Trumpeter Swan (was EUWI at Loch Raven, then eBird rarities for Maryland, etc.)

A great bird was reported on eBird today (Trumpeter Swan), and was mentioned above by Gail, but now it has been buried in this thread about EUWI on Loch Raven, due to the way Google archives discussion threads. I am surprised there was no stand-alone mention of it, so I am simply posting it. Some people don't want to receive all the group's emails, and prefer to simply read posts as they are entered (and if they sound interesting!). If by some chance you aren't interested in every update about a Loch Raven sighting and don't read every one, you wouldn't know about this swan. Terry M reported a Trumpeter Swan today at Cash Lake at Patuxent Research Refuge South Tract (access from the National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, off Powder Mill Rd). Thanks to Terry's eBird report, I went there and saw it today, just before the refuge closed at 4:30.

Not sure how the MD records folks will handle this bird (as a sighting), but the bird has no wing tag or tatoo, and no band on its leg.

Here is a link to my eBird report: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S13035830

If you have new info to report or want to respond to a post but also want to include news from something unrelated, please remember to change the subject line!

Cheers-
