Subject: [MDBirding] Birding tour of Kent Island March 3 - new birder friendly

New birders and experienced birders are all welcome

In order to raise money for the Maryland League of Conservation Voters to help continue work to improve our environment in Maryland, we are holding the first bird tour of Kent County to be followed by a brunch and discussion about Maryland LCV on Sunday, March 3 from 6:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The registration fee is $35 and includes the brunch.

This is a great way to learn more about our birds, why habitat protection is important and what Maryland LCV is doing to hold our state politicians accountable for their votes on the environment. MD LCV's Chairman and I are both bird enthusiasts and we want to help make the connection between our air, land and waters with fellow birders.

Depending on the weather and the birds cooperation we plan to visit 5 public spaces in Kent County to focus on waterfowl and look for any early spring migrants zipping around the bay shore. If you are new to birding, you will appreciate that ducks and wading birds are bigger than warblers and easier to see. We'll have a couple of scopes to help zoom in on more distant birds.

I think this is very new-birder friendly to start to learn the basics. Well have a few extra pairs of binoculars, but please bring your own optics if you have them.

This is also a great opportunity for children with an interest in birds who are mature enough to stand for an hour or two and quietly watch birds.

Participants will meet at the Queenstown Outlets on Kent Island, in the parking lot near Old Navy. You will be led on a tour of 5 key areas around Kent Island by two experienced bird enthusiasts, Denise Ryan and Tony Caliguiri.

Following the guided bird tour, participants will convene at Tony Caliguiri's home in Stevensville for brunch and to learn more about the important work the Maryland League of Conservation Voters is doing.
