It was cold and windy, but I saw lots of folks (David M, Emy H, Jo S, and others) this morning out looking for the Trumpeter Swan which showed nicely. I headed down to PG County for the Mute Swan (which was also where it was supposed to be) and a little county birding. I missed the Common Teal at Oxbow, but found a Lesser Black-backed Gull at the Jessup area parking lot. I ran into Sarel Cousins when I tried this afternoon for the Ross's Goose in Balt Co, but it was not in the pond or the school fields. The birding gods made up for that miss with 2 (!) Merlins, one in Balt Co and one in Howard. Fortunately traffic was such (and both birds cooperated) that I could pull over to confirm initial brief looks. All-in-all a good day to be out despite the weather.
