After observing the Trumpeter Swan closely from the Cash Lake Trail at the South Tract a group of four of us (I was with Kathy Calvert, Jon Landers, & Kevin Graff) proceeded to the North Tract and quickly encountered 25 White-winged Crossbills feeding in the pines along the road near the gate between the road to Lake Allen and the east end of the Pine Trail. After we had splendid views of the birds in the sun for several minutes they flew off to the east.
