A friend and I lucked into a flock of 12+ Red Crossbills at Patuxent Research Refuge North Tract, AA County, today at 10:00. It was at the intersection of Wildlife Loop and access road to Lake Allen. We admired them for 10 minutes or more before another birder appeared, Joe, who subsequently was able to count at least 20. We had wandered off in fruitless hope of White-winged.
No teal whatsoever at Oxbow, and I would expect it to be closed shortly if not already, as other birders there discovered, shockingly, human remains and summoned the police. We were obliviously unaware, but 3 AA County Police units responded.
The Trumpeter was present at Cash Lake, South Tract.
