Subject: [MDBirding] Trumpeter Swan & Red Crossbills (N/T Patuxent)

Hi all,

Well, I almost didn't go to the North Tract today-seeing the slow traffic on the B/W Pkwy, but I went anyway after observing the Trumpeter Swan on Cash Lake. Wasn't feeling very optimistic
after looking in another location earlier in the day.

Parked down by Pine Trail 2nd entrance and walked back up the road. A lady drove by said the some crossbills were just seen 10 minutes ago. Pretty soon a small group of us birders converged on a spot near the end of the fence and the short pines there were the Red Crossbills! Some of them did the 'jit' 'jit" call
Saw 1 White-winged too. I think everyone got decent looks. They stayed in the Virgina Pines the entire time some of them going to the backside of the trees where it was sunny.
Hurray!
