I don't think you're doing anything wrong. The map function hangs up on my
iPhone as well, though if I'm patient enough, I can access checklists about
50% of the time.

I did want to note that BirdLog will not help you with this problem.
Currently it is just a data submission app.

BirdsEye is the corresponding "Explore eBird" app made by the same
company. It doesn't work quite the same as "Explore Data" on eBird so it
takes a bit getting used to.
