Subject: [MDBirding] FOY Osprey at JBWS

Reported by Cynthia Bravo: seen on the monthly Saturday Birdwalk.

A cloudy, cold, breezy morning and most of the birds had vanished into their secret hiding places. We were very lucky however to find the first Osprey of spring at Jug Bay. Hunkered down on platform #6, in the most eastern corner of the Patuxent as it jogs past the Wetlands. Although somewhat protected from the weather, this bird did not look particularly happy. It seemed to be saying, Did I really need to get here this early? The general arrival date for our Ospreys is St. Patricks Day. A few other signs of spring included a Brown Thrasher and six Wood Ducks. The most activity was at the feeders by the visitor center.

There is also a Woodcock Watch opportunity Sunday, Mar 3 at 5:45: see the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary website at www.jugbay.org for more info.
