Thanks for the helpful input on navigating at Irvine. This report is from yesterday evening. We stopped at the Red Run Rd. pond on the way up and quickly located the ROGO (lifer!) and CACG swimming together on the pond. Great birds, but a stiff wind made photos very difficult.
We headed to Irvine afterward, around 5pm. Lots of sparrows (Field, Swamp, Fox, Song, WT)about. Found a very very distant owl around 5:45 perched low in trees at the edge of the back meadow, but it flushed into the trees before we were could eliminate it being a more common species. Woodcocks began calling at 6:30pm, display flights started about 6:35pm and continued until we left at 7:00pm. Very noisy, even over the wind. At least four separate birds calling, maybe more.
