For the past 2 winters, multiple Great Egrets have wintered in DC and
Arlington, between the Theodore Roosevelt Island, Columbia Channel/Marina,
Roaches Run, and the Washington Channel. It's hard to know exactly how
many there have been, but I would guess 3-5. This is a recent phenomenon,
as far as I know. Assuming it continues, I would expect to see continued
early arrivals farther up the Potomac.
