Subject: [MDBirding] Eurasian Wigeon at Loch Raven, 3/14

Finally! I was so excited, you would've thought this was a life bird for me! I was beginning to doubt my birding skills! Found the continuing male EURASIAN WIGEON yesterday afternoon, from the access road to the skeet and trap center. I have to give credit to my husband( SOB, spouse of birder, by the way!) We parked at the center's parking lot, walked back down the road, and bushwacked our way to the water. There's also a fire road that you can access, but we were afraid it might spook the birds. It took a while to find him-he has a habit of swimming in between the trees, which often obstructed our vision. Also, a good number of AMERICAN WIGEON, COMMON MERGANSER, 4 PIED BILLED GREBE, among others. An adult BALD EAGLE put on quite a show as he swooped down to try and get an AMERICAN COOT, out of the 100 or so that were in a tight flock. I rooted for the eagle, but my husband rooted for the coots. (The Eagle has got to eat too!). But the Eagle finally gave up. Thanks for the continued postings on the Wigeon. Quite a handsome bird!
