When I left the Long-tailed Duck at Georgetown Reservoir (D.C.) about 12:50
it was being relentlessly harassed by an adult Bald Eagle that was lazily
flying over and taking dives whenever the poor bird surfaced. The bird
stayed under for very long periods, but could barely surface before it had
to dive again. I watched this for 10 minutes but then had to leave. I could
understand why the duck might have wanted to leave the area if it survived
the ordeal. When I figure out how to do so, I will post a photo on e-bird.
