Subject: [MDBirding] Violettes Lock - long-tailed ducks, tundra swans, rusty blackbird

This morning began with ~120 Tundra swans resting on the Potomac at Violettes. Later had 10 more fly over.

Other waterfowl did not match these numbers, but the variety was surprising. Had 51 species for the day including 4 long-tailed ducks in the rapids at Violettes and 6 red-breasted mergansers upstream of Reilly's Lock. Horned grebes were everywhere - 17 total. Common mergansers were on the river at Blockhouse Point. One rusty blackbird was along the shore of the Potomac at Violettes.

The impoundment below Blockhouse Point still has northern shovelers, green-winged teal, and American wigeons.

Complete list is on eBird.
