Subject: [MDBirding] White-winged Scoter, Black-headed Gull, Lapidum, 3/17

On the way back from Philadelphia this afternoon, I stopped at Port Deposit
(Cecil) and Lapidum (Harford) to scope the river. My first good bird was a
White-winged Scoter flying upriver with a few Common Goldeneyes. It
settled on the water briefly near the first island north of Lapidum, but
kept going north until I lost it. It was in Harford County the entire the
time I saw it.

Shortly after that, I spotted a gull with an obvious hood sitting on the
water fairly near the Lapidum boat ramp parking lot. After getting the
scope on it and watching it fly around some, I was able to see it was a
Black-headed Gull. It eventually flew over to the Cecil side of the river
near Port Deposit.

Josh Emm also saw the gull at Lapdium but was too late for the scoter. I
just saw on eBird that Josh Emm re-found the scoter a little further
north.
